Professional apron or kitchen pinny, the real difference 📐
Put the two side by side. The household pinny stops mid-thigh, hangs off a tie knotted at the back and weighs around 150 grams per square metre. The professional one drops below the knee, covers the hips and starts at 280 GSM. That tie always goes first: a proper fixing sits inside a folded band and is locked with a bar tack at each end.
What it is not: waterproof. Heavy cotton slows water down, it does not stop it. For the pot wash you want PVC. For welding, leather. Here we are talking about stains, abrasion and long days on your feet.
Pockets, adjustment and durability 🛠️

Chest pocket and front pocket 🧰
The chest pocket on the bib takes whatever must not fall out when you bend over: pen, notepad, probe thermometer. The front pocket carries the rest. Two mistakes come up again and again. The screwdriver dropped in point up, and the bottom is punctured within three days. And the front pocket loaded past a kilo, so the neck strap saws into you by the end of service.
The reinforcement that actually earns its keep on a pocket is the bar tack at the two corners of the opening. That is where it tears. Never in the middle.
Wash after wash, the real test 🌀
In a kitchen the apron goes in the wash every day, two hundred cycles a year. The seams and the fixings give up first, rarely the cloth. Look for flat felled seams, raw edge folded inside with two visible rows of stitching, not a plain overlock.
Our instruction: 30 °C inside out, no tumble dryer, shrinkage under 2 %. We are not going to tell you dyed cotton walks away unharmed from two hundred passes at 90 °C in an industrial laundry. The cloth holds, the colour goes. If your kitchen washes hot, take 320 GSM in a dark shade. For that rhythm we do not recommend the 280 GSM. No bleach.
Getting your logo embroidered without ruining the batch 🪡
A name on its own fits inside 5 to 7 cm wide. A solid logo goes up to 8 or 10 cm, no further, or the embroidery turns into a stiff plate that puckers in the wash. Set it about ten centimetres below the top edge of the bib, on the opposite side to the chest pocket.
Fabric weight matters here too: on a light cloth a dense motif ripples, from 300 GSM upwards the base stays put. Polyester thread rather than cotton, it takes hot washing better. And have one test piece embroidered before the run.
Length, adjustment and size 📏
On an apron the real question is not the size, it is the length. Measure from the hollow of your neck down to the point you want covered: below the knee in the workshop, mid calf in a kitchen. The straps pick up 5 to 8 cm. Set correctly, two fingers slide between strap and neck, no more.
Across the rest of the range we cut from XS to 8XL, and our size guide has a calculator: height, weight, and it gives you the size to order. For a heavier build, our plus size dungarees are cut for it, not simply scaled up. The classic mistake on dungarees: starting from your top size instead of your trouser size.
Delivery, exchange and care 🚚
All our aprons are in stock. You can return them within 14 days of delivery, or cancel your order within 24 hours of purchase. To complete your workwear, have a look at our accessories for the workshop, the garden and the kitchen.
Stock sits in Miramas, in the south of France, and that is where the parcels leave from. Part of the range is on Express Delivery, delivered in France within 2 to 3 working days. If the length is wrong, the exchange is free within 14 days. In the vegetable patch our gardening dungarees take over; for the stove, it is all gathered in the kitchen apron collection.
